Okay im going to be buying a 180g what the best way to fill the tank? Any suggestions I red on the fourms and heard mixed things.. Please let me know your input
I prefer with water..... I like to start at the bottom and work my way to the top. I find it best to stop when it reaches the top...........
Just messing with ya....
Well since not everyone has their RO unit run to their tank I guess that is not the only way to do it. But for me I think it's the second best best way and the way I did it....
Then I mixed the salt in the tank...
If I had my miking tank Plummer to the DT then I would have filled it up from there until the mixing tank was empty....then refilled that with RO water, mixed in the salt and started over. I guess that is probably the best since you are not mixing in the tank. But prior to a cycle I don't think that makes a difference....
I like to fill after rocks are in using a graduated drum used to store water.
This way I know my total water volume for dosing whatever.
There is no "right way" whatever works for you.
I filled my 180 by running the RO/DI right to the tank. After the tank/sump were filled to where I wanted, I added salt and let the filters and powerheads do the mixing. Then sand and then the rocks. I took out water when I added the sand and rocks and stored it for future water changes.
Lets see, 5 gallons per bucket, divided into 180gallons, plus sump volume. Add the distance to the water from wherever he lives and. . . um. . . . well. . . . . I do better in an advisory position anyway.
When we did our 125 we ran the garden hose through a window to the RO/DI dropped it's line right into the tank. Added a heater and powerhead slowly mixed in salt. If you have dry rock and sand you might want to do most of that first as it's much nicer not getting wet when doing rock work. Obviously live rock and live sand aren't going to do well in cold fresh water, so you'll want to add once you get you salinity and temp stable.
