Hi all,

Most of the webcams that I've seen on aquariums are pretty low quality. OK, actually all of them as I cannot think of a single good example. Colors are washed, pinks are oranges, one cannot tell the difference between green and purple, etc..

Does anyone know of a good webcam for a Reef Tank?

I know one gets what one pays for. I don't have a particular budget in mind, but am hoping a good solution exists that was less than my 40D.
:D

I'm open to a camcorder w/ relayed video as an option as well.

Thanks,

I'm using an Axis 207MW camera. Its the best quality IP camera I've used and is very reasonably priced, considering how much you pay of other cameras, that in my experience, promise a lot and don't deliver much.

I thought about getting a PTZ (Pan, Tilt, Zoom) camera to control online, but have not gone that route yet.

Its a fixed lens camera, with very flexible settings, a microphone and even motion detection and switch activation. You can customize the video output and I have it set up a wide screen high resolution shot. My tank is 6 feet wide, and I can get a great shot with it.

I highly recommend this camera.

Here are links to mine:

Note that best results will be when all halides are on between 2:00pm - 5:00 pm EST.
(My halides turn on in sequence starting at 12pm, then 1pm, then 2pm. And turn off in the same order at 5pm, 6pm and 7pm)

With actinics, or some of the halides, the video is also good, but colors are better under halides.

Here is a full size screen capture

Thanks for the replies, guys!

luisgo: Do you happen to have any video of the Quickcam Pro 9000 w/ Carl Zeiss® lens used up close? I don't want to use the term 'macro', but a close up of just a coral vs. the entire tank?

whodah I have no idea how to record a video but if you are on line I can move the webcam and point one coral for you to see.

I am usually in my computer after 7pm ET. Answer here or just send a private message.

You should not have told me that...I've been playing with it for like 5 minutes.

I think I annoyed one of your fish...for like four or five frames in a row all I could see was an eye belonging to a great fish with blue/green spots...lol
