Best Wrasse??

I have my melanurusalong with a small green "coris" wrasse in a bare bottom and both do fine. I had sand before and I see no change in his day to day behavior. I'm moving soon and will put sand back in once set up again in the new place.

Wetmorella species and Pseudocheilinops ataenia eat pests and don't bury. But they are cryptic and a few would be needed to control pests in a 180g.

Pseudocheilinus wrasses, such as sixlines, fourlines, and mystery wrasses eat pests and don't need a sandbed. But they get aggressive as they mature.

Halichoeres, leopards, Anampses, and Pseudojuloides wrasses will eat pests. However, they do need a sandbed. In most cases 1.5" sandbed will be fine.

Fairy and flasher wrasses don't need a sandbed, but they don't eat pests.

I have a Melanurus, Yellow Coris Wrasse, and a Mystery Wrasse in my tank now. They are very smart and very active. Just be mindful that they have the possibility of taking our your crabs, snails, and shrimp.
