Best zeo supplements with a BP system?

Hi guys,

I have a 150g mostly sps and zoanthid reef and i have been running BP for nearly a year now and im liking the results so far. My nutrients are waaay down and my sps are coloring up and are growing well. Polyps are waaay extended even during the day. I was reading around RC and i was wondering which zeo supplements could i use to encourage my corals to grow faster? I also dose prodibio digest and bioptim on occasion.

I was thinking of adding the ff:

1. KZ coral snow
2. KZ Pohls xtra
3. KZ coral vitalizer coral food

That would be it basically. What do you guys think? Would that be enough?

got mine at aquacave..but it also took a month + after i ordered...but u can get an idea what the product is

Ahhh, that one wasnt easy to find but i think i know what youre talking about. Marine Depot and BRS dont carry it though.

I was also wondering what your opinion was on the other supplements?

Well here's the line I'm using:

Sponge Power - seems to work very well, I noticed more sponge growth in my sump and other places like under live rock, good if you've leather corals and other filter feeders, only 1 drop per 25g a day.

Stylo-Pocci-Glow - not sure if this is really needed, my stylo (your frag) grew so fast that I had given it out last weekend. I wouldn't buy another bottle once the current one is finished.

B-Balance - some says this has a bleaching effect like spur2, but I haven't noticed any, I've been using it for over a year and I'll keep using. It helps the pink/red pigment some said, but I can't really tell the difference. It says 1ml per 25 gallon so I'm dosing 2ml per day now.

Xtra/Xtra special - I've also used Xtra for over a year and will continue to use it, I've switched to Xtra special now.

Spur2 - a must if you want to fine tune the color of your SPS but you probably don't need a full bottle, as you only need to use a few ml every month.

Coral snow - it helps combat cyanobacteria and keeps water clear, I've used a bottle before and also using another bottle now, it's not absolutely necessary, especially if you're already using GAC.

That's the KZ additives I used, the rest I always find alternatives like Kent / Brightwell / Seachem, such as K, Sr, I, Trace elements, etc.

I stopped using Xtra and B-Bal for like 2-3 weeks prior to my new tanks arrival last December, because I ran out and didn't want to buy new bottles yet, waiting for my new tank to finish setup first.

Then after the move to the new tank, I noticed a few pieces of my acro lost colors, especially on the tip.

After I finished setting up the new tank I bought new bottles of Xtra and B-Bal and started dosing again, and after a month or so the color came back.

However, I'm still not sure if the color loss is due to the stress during the move, or lack of additive - likewise I don't know the return of color is due to the new tank getting stablized, with more light and better flow, or resuming adding the additives.

BUT - I'll keep dosing anyway haha

I was thinking of combining

Coral snow, KZ AA, coral vitalizer and xtra and i would dose them alternately on my tank 2 times a week.

What do you guys think?

If you're looking for growth and color I'd use Xtra, AA and Vitalizer. I use those in addition to other supplements and sps colors are doing very nice! PE is out during the day and night for me as well.

I would use Xtra, Vitalizer and AA as well. With all KZ supps, I would suggest starting with 1/4 of the dose on the bottle, or you may get some nasty algae/ deposits. Overdosing will darken the corals.

Sponge Power is good if you have some softies and seems to be good general food source.

I always found that B Balance helped colour the tips and Spur2 the body of the coral.
Use these with caution. They can strip colonies.

Alright thanks guys! What about your dosing regimens?

My tank is a zeo virgin but i have dosed kents coral accell and seachems AA as well to decent results i guess but im really looking for better coloration.

Don't know exactly what is in the KZ Zeo supplements, but I have seen improved color and growth in my system. Can't say if it can be solely attributed to KZ supplements, but I do think they help. I use the following with WM Eco Bak biopellets:

Coral Snow
Amino Acids
Coral Vitalizer
Pohls Xtra
Zeobac

This is my regimen. It's quite a bit at the moment.

Running ecobak pellets and carbon
zeobac - 3 drops/daily
zeofood - 3 drops/daily
coral vitalizer - 4 drops/daily
pohlsxtra - 5ml/daily
AA - 4 drops/daily
Kent Iron - 10ml 2x per week
Brightwells Potassium - 10ml 2x per week
Aquavitro - Potassium Iodide - 5ml 2x per week

It seems like alot of work, but whenever i come home from work, it's the first thing i do so I'm use to it. I'm waiting to run out of the last 3 so i can switch to KZ as well.

Hows this for a dosing regimen for the zeo supplements? It will be a cycle of 4 days and after day 4, it goes back to day 1. I was thinking of starting with half the recommended dosages of zeo and i was also planning to alternate the supplements because i might end up overdoing it if i dose them all everyday. What do you guys think?

Day 1: AA + coral snow
Day 2: XTRA
Day 3: Coral Vitalizer
Day 4: Nothing

Also, how long do i keep my skimmer off after dosing? Is a couple of hours good enough?

since you already does bacteria (bio digest) and a coral/bac food (bioptim) i would look into a iodine/potassium supplement like lugols and some AA
