Better choice to add next

Hello everyone.

I am thinking about adding another fish to the tank and not sure which one would be a better choice.

I am thinking about either a Marine Betta or a Juvenile Imperator Angelfish.

It is a 240 gallon FOWLR and a few corals.
1 x Black Hawain Trigger
1 x Sailfin Tang
1 x Lawnmower Blenny
1 x Royal Gramma and a few Damsels.

Which would be a better choice. The only thing i am worried about is the the angel at the LFS is about 3 inches and the Marine Betta is about 4 inches. My trigger is about 8 inches or so and i am afraid he might be aggressive towards them.

Thank you

I'd add the imperator. They are pretty spunky, and usually the black Hawaiian triggers are pretty mellow. I think the marine betta would be outcompeted for food with this group. You could also look for a larger juvenile imperator, closer to 4 inches...

Do you have lots of cover in the tank? You may want to reaquascape a bit, or remove the trigger while you are acclimating the imperator, to mess up his sense of territory. I usually add new fish with lights out, after the other fish have eaten well, to minimize risk of injury to a new fish.

I am a little worried that is i add the Imperator Angelfish is that it may go after my corals. I have a few Frogspawns, hammer, ricordia mushroom and some polyps. I have heard that it is a 50/50 chance.

I will jump in here and say that your emperor will be ok with the corals till he gets to 6". Once mine hit that size he ate me out of $2000 of coral.

I put my emp in my reef and he quickly went after my clams,so I moved him in with my 12 inch black trigger and he is fine now.He was about 4 inches in adult colors when I did this,he is now about 7 inches and I have only had him for 6 mnths.Very cool fish though I would recommend one if you like angels.

Sorry, I overlooked the corals part. If you want reef safe angels (and you can pair these) get Genicanthus. I understand of the large angels, emperors can be a lower risk than others with corals...
