Better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all...

Reefing On My Mind

To go along with my Favorite item in your tank thread... How about a Favorite that you once had, but lost for some reason or another???

I used to have a pair of Eight Line Flashers... They were a favorite of mine untill the tank crash of Jan 07... Lost all my SPS, stressed out my tank... Had an ick outbreak... Lost these beauties...

I've had two of those jump out of covered tanks. The first was my favorite. When we set up the Christmas tree one year it learned to "flash" the lights on the tree (where the males coloration intensifies and the dorsal fin turns bright red). From that time on whenever I walked by the tank at night he would flash me.....very cool fish. It's a shame the prices have gone up so much.

Without a doubt...Priscilla. She's not dead...I just don't get to have her with me anymore.

Favorite extinct thing: my fat little sausage of a mandarin that I had in my 135g tank. He was so huge...I loved that dang thing and was so proud of how fat he was...must have died of obesity (because I didn't lose fish often).

Actually, mine is a freshwater loss. I had a gang of 6 large clown loaches (about 6" long) die off suddenly overnight. In fact, I lost all 6 bleeding heart tetras, 4 or 5 yo-yo loaches, ~30 cardinal tetras, and a bunch of others. They all died off by types. Near as I could tell, I had been feeding them wrigglers (misquito larvae) and my sons pulled grass that had been covered in weed killer an tossed them into my bucket (which transfered over to my tank when I scooped). A 75% water change and a lot of carbon stopped the deaths. But it hurt to lose the big clown loaches.

My 11 headed frag of a red acan. Got it at the swap, lost it 2 weeks later-- evverything else I got is great and growing, including the other acans.

My favorite fish was "Blacky" the oscar (just your standard tiger oscar). We had him for five years and lost him in a house fire in 1998.

I had a clown trigger and an eel at the house before I left for school. They had a lot of personality. Both my brother Andrew and I were bitten by the eel at feeding time :D

The tank didn't do so well when I only came home on weekends (or less often), so I lost those two fish. We still have the yellow tang though :)

Randy- What caused your tank crash?

I don't really know to be honest... I had changed tanks over, and everything was great for a couple of weeks, then I started losing SPS left and right, and all that ended in an ick outbreak... All my parameters tested out fine... Oh well...

THAT'S awesome! Both of them!

Yeah...it was super hard for me to get pics of frags before swaps with that fat girl in the way. She's a camera ham.

Matt's fish grow more in a month than mine do in a year... I think he learned his techniques from Chinese Chicken farmers... :lolspin:
