Better to put a regal in the display or in a holding tank for a few weeks?

Just wanted to know if I should put my regal in my ref. for a bit to make sure he eats or to just put him in my display?

if you have a holding tank thats connected to your main system i'd probably put him in there w/some corals to test if he'll eat them or not.
