beyond boring....

Someone said that here about raising nothing but clownfish. I don't take it personally, after all, one man's boring is another womans joy.
Here are some pix from the "600" fish hatch. These guys are not yet eating the naturose topdressed Otohime. Just plain old Oto for them so far. So disregard the muddy color:

I take a picture of the fish in the bucket as they leave the house to be sold. I can then double check the count. Sometimes I like the picture:

Still awake?

Tanks, guys.
I just learned a photography trick that makes all my fish pictures much better. I am using a fixed small aperture (big number), and flash. Makes all the difference: better depth of field, and better focus.

And I thought Hoff's plankton manual was boring.
Jeez Kathy, that's right up there with reading legislation or regulations. Sure to cure any insomnia.

I have no sand anywhere.
The outside bottoms of my tanks are painted white. Those are my grow out tanks. The one with the water swirls is the bottom of my cooler that I transport fish in, also white. There is also a chunk of live rock in one of the tanks pictured, a remainder of my display tank that I have at last sold off.

beautiful kathy.

why did you decide to paint the walls blue and not black? im also going to paint the bottoms white and sides black, but i like your blue look better.

These tanks were originally from a store that went out of business. They were blue for the store. I scraped some of them, and painted them black, but it doesn't seem to matter to the fish. I was in a hurry to use them, so one of them did not get scraped.

Nice fish Kathy!:) and very few misbars for whatever that means...
How old are your market size?

Thanks, Luis!

Most of these fish were hatched in mid June, so they are 5 months old now, but they were market size last month at 4 months old. Some were sold at 3 months, because they were big. I seem to have saturated the St. Louis local market, so I have some extra right now.

It is all right though, to have extras. There was a 3 month break in the spawning after I moved the fish because of a power outage. So it is OK right now to have extra fish on hand to supply my customers during the 3 months when there would be no fish if my supply matched my demand. After February, I'll have to start shipping.

Yes, there are very few misbars in this batch. The misbars I do have are very cute, though.

The batch of larvae that survived the power outage have more misbars, I think because they largely learned how to eat in the dark, and perhaps did not get enough.

The ones in the first photos in this thread were the ones that i ran out of rotifers. There are lots of misbars in that batch.

My latest hatch was a smaller nest, and I have lots of rotifers this time, so they are doing well, and eating a lot. I may see some headbands tomorrow!

Cheers,
Kathy
