Are these fish reef safe?? We've had ours for over a year... but as of late iv seen it pick at new LPS added to the tank.. i dont know if its picking algae or actually at the flesh of these corals... but like i said the new LPS's havent faired very well... unless i have to much light for these corals...

But open brain.. destroyed in days... candy cane that was all nice and fleshy at a LFS 2 days ago now isnt so fluffy... and a favites coral had some flesh recession when it was first added.

What are peoples experiances with the bi color angel.

mine went after all of my corals (lps and softies) in about a week...although i am not sure if it was after the actual corals or algae. most of the corals closed up and that was enough for me. Now he is in the refugium

NO, Bi-colors are not Reef safe. In fact, I've seen them listed as one of the less trustworthy Centropyge for a reef system. No real experience, since they are delicate & not a beginers angel, I wouldn't buy one. afterall, I managed to kill two coral beauties ( one due to my own incopetence & a faulty hydrometer. The other died from unkown causes..).
Of course, a year's survival means you got a good one, congrats on that. Try Scott Michael's book on Angelfish & Butterflyfish for more info..

Great so i have a good one because its been in my care for over a year and half... But he isnt reef safe... Well that means i gotta get rid of him now... I wonder if a LFS would trade me straight up for a fish of equal value.

These the exact corals that they love - especially the open brain. it should be possible to keep certain corals with bicolors - but not all corals - as you have witnessed

Obviously if you are more interested in keeping corals that he'll eat, you must put him up for adoption. If you were nearby, I'd take him...but someone at your local salt water club will appreciate him I'm sure as it can be hard to find a healthy bicolor.

Anyway I just wanted to make sure you were aware that there are some corals he won't bother - unfortunately it is somewhat hit & miss - but these should be safe : Sinularia, Lemnalia,,Cladiella,Sarcophyton..

The worst are open brain,cynarina,& lobophyllia. He may or may not harrass your clams.

The yellow colored angels unfortunately are generally not reef safe. My Herald's (plain Yellow) went at my open brain like it was a buffet table, but he ignores my Euphyllias, gorgonians, ricordias, mushrooms, leathers, montiporas, oxyporas, polyps FWIW I bought an Acropora which he ignored until it began to die and he loved the dying flesh (blech!) - I have never seen him nip at my clam, btw

Some angels like the slime on certain corals - if your tank is big enough these will only be slightly effected or they will constantly be closing up keeping them from properly feeding and looking good

My bicolor is reef safe. He has a variety of polyps to choose from and hasn't touched them. He does graze on the live rock, but seems to leave the corals alone.
