Big algae bloom. Help ID?

Nothing eats it, really. Not at the rate it grows. Pull it out and run GFO. May take several months. It's a phosphate overload, can come from rock, sand, or tapwater; tests won't show it. If you're not using ro/di, you should be.

I'm using a spectrapure ro/di and always have for years. This is the first time I've had a algae problem like this. I kept a reef tank for years at my old house with no issues and that was even on well water. I'm on city water now and figured really wouldn't have any issues with water quality but I guess maybe its not a good as I thought. My tds meter says 0 coming out of the di cartridge.

I ordered a new reactor with some GFO from bulk reef supply. I ordered the high capacity over the standard. How long should I run the GFO before changing it out with a fresh batch? I know some of the cheaper GFO would leach back in the water if not taken out quickly enough.

For me, in the beginning starting with GFO I tested. Once the problem was taken care of I could tell when I needed to change it by algae growth.

So far even without running the GFO yet I'm getting the algae out slowly. I've been pulling as much as I can every night and have been doing water changes. Its still there but is not growing near as fast as it was.

Only thing I have noticed is the mushrooms and my zoos aren't opening as nice as there were before? Not sure why as I have only been removing algae and doing water changes. I guess I will keep monitoring them each day to see if they get better or worse.
