some one came to teh lfs i work at asking for food for a moorish idol.. they claim to of got him at big als... i asked if they were told that this is a hard to keep fish and they looked in shock when i told them that they usualy are one of the harder to keep fish ( so.. i gue s they wernt told) person has a 28 gallon tank

CAN any one conferm that that was infact a moorish and not a poor mans moorish.. ( i dont have time to look my self and i know alot of you shop there)

id like to tell him next time i see him

Yeah I was just there yesterday and they had some real Moorish Idols. Pretty cheap too. That's why they either probably bought them or were sold them not knowing the difficulty in keeping this particular fish.

goda, working at an lfs should have taught you that what customers tell you happened, and what actualy happened are likely two different things, and to try and sort it out on internet forums is pointless.

also as an lfs employee yourself, using the club forum to call other store's practices (from second hand assumptions no less) into question seems a bit inapropriate.

just my .02

why do you think that i came online... to check if they were really morish idols

he said they were but when he told me the price of 28 bucks it made me think that they were the "poor mans moorish" in which case he may beable to care for them..

"also as an lfs employee yourself, using the club forum to call other store's practices (from second hand assumptions no less) into question seems a bit inapropriate." i never said big als did anything wrong... and i really dont think they did. it would be nice to let some one know the fish they got is hard to keep but lets face it. big als is huge and when they get busy you somtimes have freshwater guys bagging up salt water, i shop there alot. they sometimes have nice corals and the manager gets me good deals :P

i get a kick out of people like you... just cause i work at an lfs makes you think that im not a hobbiest as well and trying to help people.

aways back to the topic

lets assume the fish eats. think he has much chance surviving in a 29 gallon tank (or a 54 tank that he is upgrading to soon) or do you think it best i tell him to try and return the fish.. but if the fishes life is doomed no matter what he might as well try?

btw as of next week i no longer work at an lfs :P im going to try aqua culture and possiably take some classes in computer science

might as well change occupation now so im no longer hassled

IMO THAT fish has absolutely no chance in that small setup. Plus this guys moorishs jut dont eat man.

28 seems low for a moorish.. fish2 reef and compu are you certin that they were true moorish

if it is the poormans i would buy it off the guy and give it a try in a 150 or a 120 gallon tank

as much as i hat eto say it. i have trouble telling the difference between a moorish and the wimplefish

its not that at all...

my point was about overzealousness concerning this customer's purchase at another store and the vieled criticism you dropped (then tried to explain away latter).

but im sure you'll only have the loosest comprehension of this comment as you failed to completely understand the first.

but at least youll get a kick out of people like me!

Yup, I'm certain. I'm sure cause they had Nemo running in the back ground and I was comparing! lol

Actually, it was an actual Moorish Idol (Zanclus cornutus (a.k.a.) Zanclus canescens). I've to Big Al's several times the last couple of weeks grabbing stuff I need for a 2.5 Pico I'm setting up. And I can never help going to the back to see what they've got, so I've seen the Idols there. They only had one left the last time I was there and again yes it was $28.00. I considered one but I know how difficult they are to keep and I hate loosing a fish so I opted not to.

I know the two they had were moorish idols never looked at the price and they were not in great shape to start with.

i went there once with my half sis and told her " sit and watch nemo" those huge tvs tehy have were the best idea ever.. keep kids out of the way and peoplehave mroe time to shop

maybe they should play soaps or something the wives will like on one big screen and cartoons on the other and we can shop all day. Or football for the husbands of female hobbyists.

female hobbiest... i thoguht those were just myth and ledgand kinda like dragons and the mainance free system

Yeah, I've seen Moorish Idols at big als the same time I bought my Heniochus butterfly. It was tempting to buy the moorish but I knew better. I love my Heniochus! He eats from my fingers and is very tame.
