i would suggest that kozmo may be trying to create a delineation between what you guys consider to be "no-noggin" critters (hermits, etc) and what you yourself believe to be critters with some "intelligence"...that is, forcibly extracting animals in the wild who are semi-intelligent should be treated differently than such things as algae, crabs, etc.

on another note, (and the reason i passed by), i did a detailed review of the film 'fastest claw in the west', which featured several cephalopods...anyone interested, just hop on over:

I would argue that it doesnt matter whether an organism is an algae or a blue whale. The deffinition of 'intelligence' is purely a human term. Each animal or plant or whatever has the same right to life.

We, as aquarists are at the centre of a great conundrum; put it in our tank or leave in the sea?

As ceph keepers, we are at the stage that coral keepers were at about 10 years or so back. However, one day, we will have as many captive bred cephs as there are tank raised frags right now.

Then we will have reached a point in our hobby where we can properly justify what we do. Just now... Catch 22!

Until then Kozmo, it is a noble gesture but we are not quite there yet. Many of us are aiming at captive ceph supplies. We will get there but just not yet. Just as your frags came from wild colonies somewhere, perhaps Dr idso's octo is going to be parent to a batch of captive bred bimacs??????

...go easy.

anywhere in my posts did i ever say once that i had a cephalopod? i dont remember even owning one.....

kthx

Hey Dr Millhouse,

The captive raised bimacs were getting sold by quite a few different places. I even managed to get one over here in the UK. The last I heard is that more should be available in a month or two... I think they said in the New Year???? Maybe Chris knows more.

Kozmo..... give it a rest!
