Hello everyone . I have a 40 gallon tank and I will buy either 300 gallon acrylic tank or a 500 glass tank for the same cost my main question is this should I buy like the. Auto top off and then the stuff that automates and the equipment for the bigger tank use it in my small tank till I set up the big one. Mostly a coral and invet tank

Im sorry, whats ur question?

that's a masssssssssssive jump right there. im not sure what equipment your talking about. no way you cud put a skimmer for a 600g tank on ur 40g.. I gotta agree with the jt48, you kinda left us like "what"...automate you mean timers? dosing? lighting?...any of those along with the ATO can be used on your 40...lil more info would be great to help you further.....

Chris,

I believe that any equipment that you buy should be for the new tank.

Being for a big tank ... it will be too much for the small tank to use. For example a skimmer for a 500 gallon tank would be too much for your 40 gallon.

So, likely your 40 gallon will have to operate as is until it is designated for QT or ???

However, if you need equipment to operate your 40 for the period until the big tank is ready, you may have to buy that first.

Good luck.

Cheer,
Bruce

Yeah I didn't know if I had to buy all my equipment like my Dyi led lights and buy some mp60s then ect also how big of a sump and refugiim for the 300-500 gallon tank?

For the larger tanks, your looking to spend an average of $20-$30 per gallon just to get all of the equipment to support the tank. For a sump and refugium get what you can afford/have the space for. Building a large takes loads of planning. You've got a great start on determining the tank you want, now start looking at your equipment. You may be able to turn your 40 into a QT or frag tank but that about all I would use it for.
