Interesred in knowing if anyone runs 100 gallon plus tanks without sumps just Canister filters and tunze skimmers which can be placed in tank as I work out of town during week and no one in household is interested in topping up sump or I would rest easier without power outages and the kike Please advise Thanks.

I ran a 125g with no sump for 6+ mths when i first started. It works fine with a fowlr, but if you want a sps dominated tank, a sump fuge will really benefit you. The thing i didn't like was all the equipment in the display, it doesn't look to hot but sure it can work well with a good skimmer like the tunze and alot of LR and alot of flow.

Yes I've done this, and no I don't recommend it for the simple reason that you will find getting rid of the inevitable surface scum a complete p.i.t.butt. The various surface skimmers for your skimmer or a cannister filter odn't work as well as an overflow, and scooping it out on big tank is a different kettle of fish to doing it on a small tank.

I ran my tank up to the overflows for a while as I had had hassles moving house, and had the display in place, but not the sump and plumbing, and it took some months to get done. Also you need to keep all your equipment in your tank, or as hangons, which is never as good.

But as a temporary measure it worked fine, except for the surface scum.

If you do plan on a large tank with no sump......make sure you get the best hot skimmer out there. The bermuda is probably the top hot skimmer besided the deltec 600. They would work, but i think that You would be better with a recirc skimmer you could run externally.
