Bigger but never more?

I have a rock of lovely mushrooms. There is about 6 on there and they each are huge!, but never multiply, same goes for all my mushroom rocks... Why is it that for some folks mushrooms go nutz and in my case, they extend large but thats it. They have all been in the system for at least 6 months. Conditions are fantabulous!



Second question- is it a consensus that rics will grow larger if fed directly meaty foods?

you know what I really don't know, I have a huge polyp thats been big for a while now and its just now starting to crinkle. Try keeping your water parameters steady and lighting times consistent. I find the more consistency the better that my rics do.


How long have you had the ric?

you could start cutting them in half on the mouths and they would make 2 instead of one than you can start fragging them and moving them. rics will get bigger and split more often if fed

Did you buy them that size, or are they growing?
What are you feeding your tank?
You said it's 6-months old?
What are your lighting conditions?

If 'Shroomies are happy, they'll Split and multiply.

I had one that I thought would never split. Had it for almost 6 months and it just kept growing...it was like 6 inches in diameter! then one day i noticed little babies underneath it. so good luck!

mushrooms split for two reasons. first for reproduction when they are are healthy, and second when they are unhealthy or don't have enough food to sustain their current size. It is possible that they are just happy and growing, have you picked th rock up and looked under the polyps? ther emight be somew that are covered. you can cut off a larger one to give the abies a place to grow too.

I have both colors of mushrooms in my tanks.. the reds are receeding and almost have completly been wiped out.. however the purpleish blues have jsut about taken over.. they are pretty close to each other.. the only thing near the reds are some platys

Could they cause the mushrooms over time to die out.


The purples are getting really big they must be splittnig becuase I have quadroupled nit he amount I had fo them in a shot time but some must not be plsitting becuase they are several inches across.
