Hello everyone !

I have finally found someone in the USA that is currently breeding bimaculoide ( California Reef ) Octopi. The reason I set up my system is in hopes that one day I would be able to aquire one of these beasties, and I am very close to accomplishing that meager goal.

I was wondering if any of you reefkeepers in the area share my passion for cephalopods - and desire one for your very own. I will be ordering 5 or 10 infant bimacs from a guy I met in Arizona in April - and I won't be able to keep them all unless I set up a tank for each one. In the younger stages, they can co-exist, but when they begin to grow ( as they tend to do ) they will inevidably fight for territory and resources.

If this thread has sparked your interest, sign the poll or PM me and I'll educate you as to the cost and requirements for being an octopus keeper!

I've always though of octo's like shark's and ray's......unless you have a huge tank they should be left in the ocean. It's like sticking a human in a semi trailer and never letting them out. But each to there own...good luck

This is the source of most of my information pertaining to cephalopods. I chose the california reef octopus ( bimac ) because of the minimal requirements they have ... as far as water requirements and so on.

They need at least 75g water volume with tightly fitting lids to prevent esacape. The water quality needs to be high because of the incredible pourous nature of their skin. Nitrates especially need to be 10 ppm or less - as well as the pure water out on your respective RO machine. Copper is lethal to them - but there's much more that can be found on tonmo.com - check it out if you're interested in more specifics.
