bio balls

i was told that if you have live rock and live sand then you dont need bio balls....but thats what i heard....

[welcome]

If you have a downdraft skimmer, then you'll need the bio-balls. What model, etc, skimmer do you have?

I didn't think any of the MRCskimmers came with bio-balls, but I don't know much about that line. You could ask them.

YOUR BIO BALLS ARE GONNA TRAP NITRATES AND AMMONIA WILL GO UP AND NITRATES WILL NEVER COME DOWN AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME WHEN THEY GET CAKED WITH NASTY STUFF..SO YOUR BEST BET WOULD BE TO REMOVE THEM IF YOU HAVE LIVE ROCK AND LIVE SAND...ALL NATURAL IS THE BEST

i have heard bad things happening to peoples tank when nitrates became too high because of bio balls. i would not start using them.

downdraft skimmers need that and I just got a good deal with a big skimmer where they did not know why it was not working right and they had it for sale. i took it, cleaned it and when I looked at the bio ball chamber it was empty. I called them up and said if they ever had any bio balls in there and they said ," what bio balls" :)
