What HOB skimmers do you guys recommend? Warner Marine, Octopus, etc?

I had a remora on my last tank, and would like to try something different. I don't have $500 lying around, so the deltec is out of the question.

to replace the stock pump you can use Mj 900 or 1200 i think.

As far as other hang on skimmers i like CPR brand, i have the SR3 in my biocube and works great. If you want to do a fuge in the middle chamber and thats why you want a HOB you could also do the CPR SR3 and buy a HOB penguin filter and turn that into a small fuge. either way would work.

I would go with the rio hf 6 a little more gph than the mj1200. Iv heard of ppl taking out the 90 in the return and just flexing the pipe into the straight, they say it increases flow. I think a fuge on that small of a tank is kind of pointless if you’re going to do a fuge plumb a 10 gallon into the tank. Or maybe a couple of reactors instead of the fuge.

i have to disagree. i had a hair algae problem in my bc14 that i couldnt get a handle on for jack! i scraped the paint off the back of the middle chamber, threw a ball of cheato, some live rock rubble and a 10w spiral pc back there and noww i dont have a single trace of anymore hair algae, and i have tons of pods! in my personal opinion i think it was the single most beneficial thing thing that ive done to my tank out of all the things ive done to my tank.

Alright guys. I've encountered another head-scratcher in my quest to set up my Biocube 29...

How're you guys doing your flow on the 29g? I have a Hydor Flo "wavemaker" (I know it doesn't do much, but I think it's beneficial) on the end of the stock pump. I'm going to get another powerhead... But I can't decide if I want the Koralia 1 or Koralia 2. I just want a moderate flow. Nothing too strong.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I had a Koralia nano for a while(about a day, HAHA it was worthless), then got a koralia 3 and put it between the two overflows aimed at the surface towards the front of the middle glass, it was pretty good flow! I only added the Koralia 2 when I started a bout with cyano in hopes to get more flow behind rockwork.

If you just want medium flow go with the K3, ITS GREAT

Haha. Okay. Thanks for the help. I didn't even consider a Koralia 3... I'm hopefully going to be able to hide it in a corner... I really do think that pumps are so unsightly. XP
