ide like to see some one block off the bottom intake grate and turn the 1st chamber into a DSB.

btw, i think i recall a guy few pages back who had the 70w hqi upgrade in his hood and he was having trouble with the hood disforming...

If you'll go to page 6 of this thread and scroll down, you'll see pics of my tank. I have the nano-tuners 150w hqi upgrade in my hood and I don't have any warping issues. I think the poster might have some air flow problems. When you cut power to the fans, things do get hot in a hurry, believe me I found out the hard way!

Also, you'll see I have a very DSB to accommodate a bluespot jawfish. It isn't deep enough to block the bottome intake grate, but it's pretty close.

On a side note, I really need to update my pics, I've done some major re-scaping since then! ;)

Hello--Thanks Hot Rod. I will do those changes that you suggested this weekend. As for the bubbles they were there from day 1 (so the filter was not pluged) and last night I took out the filter between section 1 and 2 and the bubbles quit. I have seen on here that people have changed that filter but I am not sure how. It just seems to block a lot of water from getting through. Thanks Jerry

yeah, the stock water filter's do hold A LOT back, most people will either remove the stock filter pull all the padding off dump the carbon out and then use the cut to fit filter pads, I went that route for a while, but now I just use a little filter floss, it seems to be least restrictive, works great and is cheap and easy to replace, I just float it in the top of chamber 1. One other thing I forgot to mention that I would HIGHLY recommend is in the bottom of chamber 3 there is a sponge, take it out, it is just like the bio balls when it comes to nitates, I pulled mine and that is where I now run my purigen <SP?> packet. overall it can be a great tank, just needs a little modding!!

does anyone have the contact information for oceanic? i need to have them send me some replacement fans since its under warranty still.

I just bought one and it isn't very bright IMO. There is probably something better to use. Also the thought of having a light underwater kinda freaks me out a little bit. The tanks is in my sons room so I decided to ditch the idea. I might try something else in the future though.

maybe i shoulda gone with the nano tuners upgrade then because i didnt want to lose my hood, but i did want the MH!

i run my tank BB, and was thinking more along the lines of keeping it BB but adding the DSB INSIDE of the first chamber...

You know what chris I like the idea of the dsb in chamber 1. I need some extra sand and I'm going to plug that bottom intake and use your idea. I took a huge chunk out of my hand removing the false floor with needlenose. Just be careful. Does blood harm the tank? I saw my decorator crab spawn after the blood so maybe blood is an awesome supplement LOL!

haha bout a half inch gash on my right hand, bout an inch lower than my pinky knuckle lol. Yea I dont know what took it out, but that lower floor is a tough one to get out. When you do get it out, it gets its revenge lol.

So does blood hurt the system? Or do you think It could benefit it? Theres a topic I dont think anyone has touched on yet.

I'm not an expert by any means but I'm not so sure it would even be worth the hassle of putting sand in the first chamber...there is so little surface area that I doubt it would really end up making any noticeable difference and would end up just being a place for detritus to collect without you being able to see it. I removed the false bottom out of my 29 (and subsequently modified it and replaced the "frame structure" of it) and was astonished to see all the debris that had collected. I think if you're really interested in benefiting from having some sort of sand bed in your system that plumbing a sump/refugium or even using the AquaFuge from CPR Aquatics might be a better choice...just my opinon though, don't think adding a 4" x 4" x 6-8" area of DSB is going to do much.

quick question. how do you guys get the MJ900 to fit in the third chamber? im trying to swap out the stock pump but its extremely tight and i dont think itll be able to suck in water. i must be an idiot, but any suggestions
