Bio Cube Owner's Thread

Has anyone use the Biocube Media basket and fuge basket from mediabaskets.com in your Biocube 29? Would you please sharing your experience and opinion on these products? I am seriously thinking about getting one of this package http://shop.mediabaskets.com/BioCube-29-Package-Deal-BC29-Bundle.htm , for my Biocube 29. Also, 5 watt underwater light.

I ordered on Friday and will post my results on here too, I ordered EVERYTHING for the BC29... I must say I am bummed about the new biocube hood, it looks nice, I wish Oceanic would start selling just those hoods. Save me $$$ on the LED retrofit, now I will play the waiting game to find someone selling their 6 month old HQI biocube cause they didn't have the time to take care of it. MUAHAHAHAHA!:lolspin:

Quick question for you guys, how is the lighting on a stock 28 gal. I'm thinking of buy one for my first saltwater tank

Ditto to what David Jr said. I believe the stock lights in the BC 29 can be retrofitted with T5 lighting. I know I can't do it to my BC 14 because the smallest T5 is too long.

Bodiddley, clams probably aren't the best idea for the BC under stock lighting. You could keep a derasa, but they get HUGE. Puggsli1, the lighting is average at best, only good for softies or LPS mostly. I have heard about that jkrentz, I thought it was a myth! Awesome look. Puggsli1, that's what you need! :)

This i hav researched and didn't mention here i am upgrading the lighting to MH or LED

Well, here is the fish guard I put in my bBC 14 the other week. Originally, I had blue sponge blocks set up on the back but they got dirty vairly quickly. I like this set up much better. Its rain gutter guard that I picked up at HD and I just cut it to fit. I cut it a little wider than the opening so it would spring/bow up ward.

The problem with this setup is that it doesn't keep the fish in the tank as much as it keeps the fish out of the rear chambers. I think you should be able to modify it so that it achieves both. Better if the fish get in the rear chambers than die on top of the gutter guard.

Yeah, I thought of that too but the material actually bows up (really can't see it in the pic) and when I close the top, it meets with the plastic light shield so there is no place for the fish to rest on. It'll just slide back into the tank. :)

So I got the media rack, it's pretty sweet, the water is super clear, pictures to follow! Anyone get the LED upgrade yet?

I ordered my rack from InTank a couple of days ago. Looking forward to changing out the balls. How bout some thoughts from people who are currently using the rack and how do they have it configured. Media, rubble, fuge with the underwater light?

Media rack

Media rack

So I got the whole package: Fuge, Media basket, fish-saver. Also 3 sheets (yeah it's alot) of the poly-filter floss, the purigen and 2 bags of the chemi-pure elite. It was so easy to put in that I took it all out to make sure I did it right... yeah lame. I put the floss on top, the purigen in the middle and the chemipure in the bottom. The fuge was easy I just dumped some chaeto in there and rigged up the submersible lights, which I soon realized were not LED and get warm enough to heat my aquarium up 2 degrees over night. Then I had to add enough SW to fill the back compartment for the fuge to work properly. I did not modify the flow (i.e. cut the tab) between chamber 1 and 2, because I have the BC skimmer... why? IDK. it makes me feel warm and fuzzy with it all put together. Just too bad about the tempurature increase, I may have to look for a LED submersible. Stinking Houston temperatures get too warm even for winter.:smokin:

No rubble please.

Rubble or bioballs lead to nitrates.
