Bio Cube Owner's Thread

I love it, I've had mine for almost 2 years (i think) and it's been the best mod (aside from the LEDs) that I have in my tank. I also have the fish-saver insert but took it out cause I didn't really need it (my eel finds his way back to the tank every time).

I don't have any pictures of mine but found this on their website: http://shop.mediabaskets.com/images/Package 1(1).jpg

when I bought mine they were totally different i.e. I have egg-crate for shelving and now they have fancy "LASER-CUT" pieces. yeah I'm jealous.

I think we're going to have to try it out. I, however, am definitely going to need the fish-saver because I found my baby clown in chamber 1 (thank God) about 2 days after I got him. If he had gone to chamber 2, he would have been a goner for sure! I think we're also going to upgrade to LED's at some point. Currently, we just have the stock canopy/lights/fans. Of course, we've also had our eyes on a beautiful, 75g starphire glass tank with the remote control LED's (if we ever come up with that kind of money..LOL)

Need to get this thread going again.

Just ordered the LED light kit for my BC14. The heat build up is getting crazy in the tank. 84 degrees the other day. i live in military housing in south korea and i dont have much control for temp in my house.

Also ordered the media basket for the center chamber.

Here is a pic from this morn. just stocked it this week with some new coral. was not easy to find an LFS here in Korea. All the stuff is not fully open b/c the lights just turned on

Looks good! Is that a carnation coral? Also, what is that thing that is about an inch or two above the tip of the carnation coral? I just can't make it out!

on the very top is two colonies of Zoo's

Purple mat on the left is star poyps. better picture below when they came out.

red thing laying down is strawberry coral or cauliflower coral. Or at elast the common names i have heard. i think it is proper called: Dendromephya.

Brown branching thing on the bottom in the middle is acropra

the item just above that i think is some kind of mushroom.

Has anyone put the Aquatic life skimmer in chamber 3 of the filter where the fuge basket would go? This would be on a BC29.

I am thinking this will let me use the media basket and skimmer side by side with the heater in chamber one, media in 2 and skimmer in 3.

Thank you!

I think you may be confused. First, with the return pump in chamber 3, no the skimmer won't fit. It barely fits in chamber 1. I would recommend skimmer in 1(the one with the slots for the over flow), media basket and huge in chamber 2, and everything else with the return pump in 3.

Yea i was looking at it like there were 4 once you remove the bio balls since you can have the two InTank pieces in there.

I really don't se the point of the fuge.

Gotcha. The only problem with putting the skimmer there is that they like a pretty constant water level. You could do it but you'll probably want an ATO system unless you already top off your water once or twice a day.

Gotcha. Thanks for the advice. Is it necessary to have the Fuge with the media basket, any other solid options? I like the Media Basket and what it provides. What would I put in the fuge? I'll move the skimmer to chamber 1, should the intake be mounted level with the chamber 1 to 2 wall?

The tank I bought had the AL 115 in it but no mounting hardware besides the suction cups so it's been an interesting ordeal.

Not necessary to add the fuge. You'd put some macro algae like cheato in the fuge and get a lite for it. The idea is that the cheato will outcompete other algae for nutrients allowing you to harvest, and throw away the cheato rather than fight microalage in the display. The fuge is also a safe place for pods to grow and thrive. The fuge basket isn't necessary but it could make maintenance easier.

As for the skimmer in chamber 1, raise it as high as you can. My cup actually keep the back flap from closing completely. So I can snap the left side closed but the right side rests on the cup. I've found that this gets me great performance from this skimmer. Also, I only use the suction cups as well. I've been tempted to glue some magnets to the suction cups and place magnets on the outside back wall to help keep it in place.

As for the advice, my pleasure! Just make sure you pass it on as you get some experience.

Add another to the nano list.

Just got mine a few weeks ago......got the LR, sand and base rock all put in and right like I want it. Ive taken a litany of pix, and they all come out looking like azz....so for now, no pics.

The tank is in cycle mode at this point......think Im gonna throw a shrimp in there today. I was worried about the cloudiness after adding the sand, but everything has turned crystal clear.

At this point Im just waiting for the diatom take over.....LOL

This is a great thread, loved reading the back and forth between OP and King, well played sirs

Not sure where you got your dry rock from but I'd test your water for phosphates soon. The advice given to me when I was starting was to simply rinse it. Turns out to not have been the best advice. I have a feeling that's what is contributing to some occasional algae issues I have had for the past 6 months. If you have phosphates hop on over to the reef chemistry forum where there's a good thread about how to treat your rocks.

And welcome! The biocube is a great little tank IMO. We love ours.

Can some one tell me or even better show me a picture of where the tank fill level is... mine is so noisy(dripping) while im trying to keep it between the max min fill line!

Are you using the bioballs as a wet/dry filter?
If you are not i would pay no attention to the fill line. The marked fill line is only for running a wet dry filter.
So add water till the dripping is a little more quiet . Always add water while the pump is running because it diplaces the water in the middle chamber and the pump chamber and could over flow the display tank. Add a little at a time.
