Bio-Pellet Flow Rate!!

How much flow should I be running through my bio pellets? And what is a good efficent pump to use? I am looking at a quiet one 6000, thought or suggestions? Thanks!

The mfr should make a recommendation on flow rate and from there you can decide. I have a MAG3 on mine running wide open, which is not much more than a moderate tumble.

This will depend on your reactor and how much pellets are used. I would suggest something with an ability to adjust the flow, or use a ball valve. The pellets should just be fluidized enough so they don't clump together. I have a Reef Octopus BR 110 and use an Eheim Compact + 2000 for flow, on a 180 mixed reef tank.

Concur. I have a valve on mine, but to achieve the fluidized state, I wound up cranking it all the way open. I would suggest a gate valve, vice a ball valve, for more precise control over flow.

I am actually using a modified media reactor, is it worth the money to purchase a reactor desinged specifically for Bio-Pellets?

I started the pellets as an experiment, and used the BRS reactor I had been using for GFO, it worked OK, but wasn't going to hold enough media for my system. Ultimately, I bought the RO reactor, and yes, it does work better, more even flow, less/no clogging, etc.

I filled my reactor 1/3 full of XL pellets with a valve in and a valve out, and both valve are open all the way. I leave the tumbling to the gymnasts!

Put a ball valve on the pump, bio pellets will do best with minimal flow, here is a video that Jeff Macare did talking about the flow for BPs
