Biocube 29 Build

Yea my LFS has one that he will let me borrow. I plan on hammers and torches for a long time before l look into clams.

Sweet! That's the best way to know for sure if you've got enough / too much light. Having too much light is a major possibility given how intense & directional new LED fixtures are!

Anyone had issues with zoas and Lps higher up than clams? I figured I would just slowly turn the leds up before I think about a clam. I just don't want to fry my other corals.

If you just installed your LED's then start off at about 65 percent and raise about 10 percent per week. I'm not sure what the rule is but it worked for me. Almost bleached all my corals when I first got my LED's. I started off with 80%. My Leather Toad stool is barely recovering. It turned really white within about an hour.

Definitely set up an acclimation mode so as not to shock the lower light corals. Then when adding lower light corals in the future, start them off in the sand bed, and slowly move them up as they acclimate.

Well my leds should be here sometime today, and I am going to do the airline mod to my tunze. Should have some pics and an update later tonight. I would like some opinions on my aquascape. I only have one large rock in the middle, and I want plenty of swim space.

Well the leds didn't show up but I got the intank basket and tunze in. Anyone else have problems with the skimmer top coming off really easy? It seems like it comes off if I just move it a little bit.

Make sure you sit it correctly. I had that problem but after a day of trying to figure it out, I finally did. It's supposed to sit on the edge of the water riderector. I'll see if I can take a picture of mine and post it. Also, you may need to move the skimmer up and down to line it up with the water director so that the cup sites on both perfectly.

I had the same issue with keeping the top part of the skimmer from popping off. So I went to Home Depot and got some zip ties that were long enough to go around it. I haven't had any problems with it since then.

Leds installed and fish are in. Anyone got tips on keeping the tank a bit cooler? Right now it is running around 83-84 degrees. I am thinking about installing another fan in the hood that will just vent out the warm air. I will try to get some pics up this weekend.

I leave the back cover on the hood open during the day when no one is home. Iv'e yet to have any heat issues with mine.

Yea I try that also. Just gotta bump it down a few more degrees. I am thinking about doing zoas on the sanded, torches half way up the large middle rock, and some sps on the very top. You can get a better idea of what I am talking about when I post some pics in a few days.

Can't wait to see some pics. By the way.. My clam seems to be doing really well under the LED's. Not sure if that will change over time but so far seems really happy.

Ok here are some pics of the LED install and a few tank pics. My plan is for the lower rock on the right to be covered in zoas, the big tall rock will have torches and some sps on it. Under the gsp is where my goby and pistol pair have started to dig. These are not the best pics but they will do for now.
