BioCube-Quiet return pump ???

I have setup a 29g BioCube and bought the Media Basket with the "upgrade" Cobalt MJ 1200 series return pump. Man,....this pump is pretty noisy. I can hear it several feet away in the living room with the TV on, 4 dogs messing around and a cockatoo bird. lol

I thought the vibration noise may be against the bio section's wall, so I placed the pump in the display, and it really vibrates, so that's not the issue.

Is this pump just bad quality ?

Should I opt a different manufactures pump ?

The MJ1200 is 295gph, and seems like the gph flow is pretty good, so I'll need a power head of about the same.

the cobalt mj 1200 is a pretty good pump. I have never noticed any noise coming from mine. have you taken it apart and inspected to make sure nothing is wrong with it?

if you are holding it in your hand in the display and its not even plumbed to anything and it is still loud, i think theres definitely something wrong with it.

I just looked it up on Amazon and it's fairly large at 6", so I'll have to measure the return chamber. If you have experience with this pump please give me your thoughts.

I just upgraded to a Rio R6h and I love it. It was a little noisier than the stock pump but after it ran for a few days it doesn't seem nearly as noisy, not that it was bad to begin with. Lots of flow, and for $26, it's hard to complain.

Just my 2 cents, but personally I wouldn't feel comfortable with only 160gph. That's 100gph slower than the original. I know you have a new pump coming, but how far out is it?

Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking including the 600 pump, as the MJ-1200 is 295 gph. (brain fart)

The 1,000 model is 267 gph.

The pump is coming from Hong Kong, of course, so I don't expect it for 2 weeks, but we'll see.
