Biota Bonsai Coral Beauty Angels

Nick. Please post pictures if you can. Especially originals and the follow up. I like to get some but still wait for the verdict from people like you.
Most of us, you and me, tent to bias toward CB so I like to see for myself if possible.

I'll do my best, they are all in QT at the moment so hopefully a bit easier to photo than when in the display!

The first people that can verify the difference is somebody who has both a Bonsai and non-Bonsai Biota CB. Hopefully someone on this forum qualifies?

I'm guessing in about six months, they should be maybe 60% to 70% full size and about 80% to 90% about six months after that. Maybe reach full size in 1.5 to two years? These are just guesses, since I've never kept such a tiny Angel before.

Mine is quite active, has great colors and seem to have a normally shaped body and fins. The captive bred fish coming out of Biota tend to look more natural than some of ORA's offerings, IMO. Though physical deformities are not often obvious when they're so small.

I'l post a pic when I can get a good one and update this post as mine grows.

Have there been any non-blemished bonsai beautys for sale? Seems odd that the two linked so far both have blemishes, wonder if they are just putting a fancy name on the runts of the litter? Don't get me wrong it wouldn't put me off buying one but just wondering of they are being a bit sneaky

Mine and the other one that was linked are the only two I've seen so far. I think I've seen at least 3 others that were listed as "Bonsai" and I don't recall them being blemished. I've been very hesitant to get one of these, but this one was just closer to my price range and I'm hoping the blemish will eventually fade. If that's likely. Got it more out of curiosity on how it develops more than anything.

The last couple weeks there seems to have been quite a few fish listed on DD that have a blemish, wonder what's going on.

Yours has almost the same blemish as mine, only I paid full price and you got a $40 discount, with (I'm assuming) a 20% discount on top with the coupon. Well played, sir.

There was a handful of Bonsai CBs before ours and they all looked normal, as far as I remember.

I'm a little worried that both of ours have the scar. Is this some sort of sign of genetic or parasitic disease?

I have mine in an acclimation box with crappy visibility, but it looks like the scar is already starting to fade. It's real active and eats like a pig. I think you'll be pleased with you purchase, especially at that price point.

I'm pretty excited to get him, he's supposed to be delivered tomorrow. Its good to hear that yours is doing good and that the scar is maybe fading.

I'm gambling that the blemish will fade, basing that off of one of my Anthias getting a blemish from hiding in the rocks, from my bristletooth tang. After about a week or
so of getting it, it was gone. But that's the only fish scar experience i have at the moment....

Yes, with all the discounts on this one I thought it would be worth the risk. I just had to have a reason to use that 20% coupon, it was killing me seeing it there unused all week lol.

I've kept a non-blemished BCB for about 10 days now. She appears to be perfect in conformation. When I first got her, she had a tiny orange dot on her forehead, almost like a star on on a horse's forehead, but it appears to have faded away. Coloring is very vibrant, as is health. So far I'm very pleased!

Of all the pictures of CB Coral Beauty that I have seen, I never consider their coloration as brilliant. However I think color will get better with better care. I would love to see a few pictures of these angels in tanks.
Hint: to take pictures of these fish you have to use a good telephoto lens and stay at a fairly far distance so that they will act normal. Get up to the glass and most of the time they will dive into the rock.

Do the bonsai beauties really stay smaller, and would a 40 breeder be an adequate rank for one. Also is there any other source to get one besides DD, I don't specifically know of an lfs doing business with Biota. I would imagine they are just like ORA and require a minimum and other commitments just to purchase.

So after having mine for close to a week, I feel very good about the blemish he had. It's almost gone already. It was his entire forehead and now its just a little spot on the very top. Very active little fish, likes to go in and out of the rocks so is hard to get a glimpse of him.

Any pictures of any people have had a long time? Do they keep the same colors?

This is mine 7 months on, it's not the best pic as it's head is a bit faded due to a bacterial infection I'm currently treating for in QT but you can get an idea of the colour on the body which is still very bright. I will endeavour to get a better, in-tank shot once the infection clears but for now this will have to do!

So, a little over two months in, an update: My Bonsai CB is now about 1.25"-1.5" long (hard to tell because she's constantly moving), fat as butter, and bright as a new penny. Still very active, and the colors have developed beautifully, along with nice striping on the sides. I've seen her pick algae off a shedding gorgonian, but so far she hasn't nipped any corals in a tank full of gorgonians and ricordea. Very cool little fish--I'm glad I got her!

Although I guess "she" will turn into "he" before long, since s/he is the only coral beauty in the tank...

I'll try and get a picture of mine tonight. I would guess mines in about that same length now too. Definitely getting more vivid colors, compared to when I first bought it. Blemish is completely gone.

Busy little guy, named him "Bite-Size"; and he's constantly on the move picking at the rocks.

One month later, my BCB is closer to 2" long. Looks like a fully grown CB but tiny. I really hope she doesn't get any bigger!
