Birdnest with red/brown hair on tips

Hi,
I bought this giant from a guy breaking down his tank. It looked good except where he let the water get too low and tips went out of water and died.

on those tips that went out, it has this filamentous algae growing on and black on a couple tips. what should i do with it? cut the ends off? or leave it?

the polyps arent green as they were but i guessing that is from going from MH lighting to my led lighting.

I have rapid led 60 degree optics (12cw/12rb) on my 29 gallon.

I would two things:
First, make few frags. This colony may or may not survive change from MH to LED lighting. Frags have greater adaptability.
Second cut those tips with algae growing on them, healthy coral will quickly grow over the cuts.
