Birds nest lost a bit of flesh.

I have a birds nest that has bleached at the bottom in the middle. I know they tend to do this but today a piece of flesh was missing from said spot. s that normal as well? All my params are spot on and theres lots of growing tips. Also the polyps are still sticking way out.

Losing tissue in the middle of a BN colony is not the norm. One should look for the cause exhaustively while trying to save a piece or two by fragging it.

the middle is bleached but the peice missing the flesh is a large branch. should i remove the branch? it seems to be spreading through the branch.

Also do frags have to be a certain size to survive? the end of the branch are still very healthy looking but they are very small.

I would sacrifice the affected branch and frag the distal living portion. Any size frag has the potential to survive given optimal growing environment.

Thanks for the info. im gonna frag it today. any advice or tips? this is the first sps i have fragged. not gonna lie im i little nervous.lol

Before i would frag anything i would check my parameters first. If something is out of whack then it doesnt matter if you frag it, you lose the thing anyway. When i lose anything like you describe it is usually because my phosphates are up or my alk is too low. just my 2 cents

my alk is low. i am starting to raise it now. Will that save it if that is the problem being it already lost flesh? or am i gonna have to frag as well?
