Birds Nest Problem

Hey guys didn't know if anyone knew what might be going on, on my birds nest. I just noticed it today so I don't know how long its been doing this.

I may just cut away the bad part unless anyone else has any experience with this. Up close it looks pinkish/white like down to the skeleton and the polyps in that area are gone. I noticed it in two places.

ANyone know what or why it did this? Pics below. I'm going to recheck my levels today once I wake up. Others have suggested maybe a nudibranch? I haven't added anything new in several months so I don't think its that...

I hope once my lights turn on it won't be worse. Any suggestions? Thanks !!

I would say either something is eating it or I have has times where a snail or hermit got stuck on some coral and a dead spot would appear. I would def cut that piece out and start looking for nudi's and any other kind of pests.

I did a few things today, first was I cut the pieces that were having the issue, just in case it was some disease with the coral. Needless to say, more pieces broke than I had hoped, it happens, guess I got some more birds nest to sell. I found no nudis, last night, this morning or after I cut. Nor did I see any eggs. The white did extend so thats why I cut.

The only thing I do, is dose with vinegar, which is daily. My skimmer is working and pulling junk out and I haven't changed anything except my vinegar dosage. (which I have been slowly increasing to get rid of my nitrates and phosphates, and it was doing great and I was ready to cut my dosage of vinegar down by half)

I keep a bag of Chemi pure in my sump and the only filter is a filter sock which is cleaned weekly. My sump/refug has cheato, hair algae and one red mangrove, sand and live rock.

So I retested my levels and was kinda of shocked to see the results;

2/8/2013

Ammonia-0
Ph - 8.0
Phosphates- .25
Nitrates - 10ppm
Calcium - 440ppm
Kh (Alk) - 7-8 dkh or 125.3-143.2ppm
vinegar dosage - 19.2ml /daily

02/23/2013
Ammonia-0
Ph - 8.0
Phosphates- 1
Nitrates - 5ppm
Calcium - Didnt test
Kh (Alk) - Didnt test
vinegar dosage - 27.2ml/daily

2/25/2013

Ammonia-0
Ph - 8.0
Phosphates- 2
Nitrates - 40ppm
Calcium - 440ppm
Kh (Alk) - 6-7 dkh or 107.4-125ppm
vinegar dosage - 31.2ml/daily

YIKES!!! WTH happened? I keep asking myself this and I have no idea. I do normal tank cleanings once a week and change 8-10 gallons each time. (55 gallon tank)

TAP water / RODI comparison
Ammonia-0/0
Ph - 7.8/7.4
Phosphates- 2/0
Nitrates -0/0

No body has died, all my fish seem happy, swimming and eating. N0 algae blooms. The only change I noticed was my birds nest. I do my reg weekly cleaning tomorrow. Will test again, then move to about 5 gallons of wc a day for a few days to see if that helps.

Anyone have any ideas or thoughts that I am missing here? I love this hobby, and just when you think things are stable and going great, SMACK! *sigh*:sad2:
