Birds Nest tips and base turning brown?

I have two green birds nest in my tank, both were bought about 5-6 months ago. They both have started turning brown at the bases, and the larger of the two has almost every tip brown. I just cut the tips. Not sure what to do next?

Try getting a little more flow around the base. Once the birdsnest gets large enough its been my experience that the inner most areas that are sheltered from light and current flow tend to die off. It may be something similar here too, at least concerning the base.
For the tips, did they get exposed to air for an extended period of time?

the birds nest is pretty much the highest in my tank and getting the most flow in my tank. as for the tips, they've never been exposed to the air ever...the thing isn't really that big at all, at most 4"..

My green and ponape both have die off at the base. Started happening as they got bigger. My colonies continue to grow and are colored fine. I was under the impression this was "normal" for some birdsnest. Not saying that is the case for you. Algae at the tips happens to me occasionally when I accidentally damage the coral during water changes.

should i try and scrap the brown off around the base? the way it has branched out will make this difficult without breaking a bunch!
