Mine goes through stages. One month it will grow very slowly(if at all), then it will hit a growth spurt and grow an inch. But on average, 1/2 in. per month.

I did a little experiment where I had 1 250w HQI MH in a 40B and a T5 light fixture over the other 40B. Both were plumbed into the same sump and had similar flow in each tank. I notice an extreme difference in growth with certain birdsnest under T5's vs halides. It seem that the even spread under the T5's makes them grow faster than under halides.

I noticed that different nests grow at different speeds, my ponape grows really fast compared to the green nest I had
