birds nest

I have a birds nest coral that is growing like crazy but is really thin and spindly. The piece it came from is really thick. Is there any way to make it grow thicker rather than longer or should I just be happy it is growing

From what I've read on this site, the general consensus seems to be that sps will have thicker branches with higher flow. There are several threads on this very topic on this site.

Flow and par need to be good, but it's also the maturity of the colony. IME older branches will be much thicker.

Thanks for the advice. I will move it a little to get some higher flow and see if it thickens up

Flow influences banch thickness more than most other parameters as far as I can tell. Mine gets lots of flow and has a nice thickness to the branches.

Growth rate and form are relative to alkalinity, light and flow, in that order. Calcium will not limit growth unless you get below NSW level, typically 320.

I'd be willing to bet that your alkalinity is high, light is good and flow is moderate.

I have moved it up to a stronger flow but still way to early to tell if it is working or not
