Birdsnest coral

I purchased a birdsnest that had no incrusted on the frag plug yet. I took it off the frag plug and glues it to a rock. It has grown a lot up but still has not incrusted on the rock. Should I cut the dead skeleton from the base and reglue or just let it alone. Im afraid it is gonna grow to big for its base and fall off the rock. Thanks in advance

I've had mine for a few months. It has more than doubled in size, but no encrustation of the base. I just have the piece stuck into a hole. I think if you have it glued, it will eventually encrust to the base, but may take a long time.

Birdsnest do not encrust, they only keep growing upward and outward.

When you mount a birdsnest frag you want to find a nice hole to stick it in.And you don't want to pick a hole that is off the side of the rock.

That little branch will grow an entire colony off the little branch with no other attachment points. So coming off the side of the rock chances are it will grow big enough that it's own weight will break the original attachment point.

They will grow and the bottom branch will start dying off from lack of light. When mine gets to a football size, I take it out and frag it into 20 pieces. Let the dead bottom pieces slowly come back to life.
