BK's 110 Gallon Build

Your system looks great. You should bring that wrasse over and pick out some sps to take home with you.

Thanks nook! I never see the Sargent Majors in tanks. I'm a sucker for unusual but cheap fish. I fight for the underdog!

I like what you have done with your long tank so far. What's the plan with the cube?

Cube will have three beautiful Ritteri anemones in the rear center. I'm wanting a bridge that C-curves in front of the anemones from side to side with acropora, millepora, and a few strategically placed tridacna Maxima and Crocea. I'm going to have a section in front of that for giant tridacna and LPS, then behind the bridge and sides of the anemones will be a ton of Vietnam ricordea, Yuma, mushrooms and mini carpet anemones.

I have been trying to catch that thing for a week now. It's just too quick. By the time I get off the couch to power the gate on the trap he's long gone. I really need to dedicate some time in front of the tank to catch it. I'll get it sooner than later.

I like that plan. You certainly have the perfect tank for it.

I have been thinking about moving my sump to the basement and adding in a frag tank. I'll convert the existing in stand 55 gallon to a complete Cheato/ algae grow out.

Pros:
-Quiet
-Easier to work in
-More water volume
-Frag tank space

Cons:
-13' of head and 35' of horizontal piping
-Drilling through existing floor
-Need a monster/ hungry/ expensive pump
-Not 6' away for easy glance

Is it worth it? I'm not sure.

I used the 4" of space between the walls and the tank on each side to hide my "œmess" and make it look more like a built in tank. Simple magnets are holding the panels in place. The right side holds all of my testing equipment while the left side holds a towel and food for now.

The added benefit is that I can't hear the power heads at all any more. I also plan on adding PC fans on top to create some air flow through the cabinets. This should aid in cooling the tank tank more during the summer.

Did you build the sump or find one? I decided to keep my 120 so I can use it as a holding tank for when I split my Frontosa group up to sell.

I was about to order the acrylic to build one when I got a message to see if I wanted this old tank. This was the perfect solution for me. It's a standard 6x2x2 125 gallon. I ordered glass and added the baffles and plug some old overflow holes but otherwise I didn't do much to it.

Come already I'm gonna be looking for some frags soon lol

I'm going to start mixing the water between the sump downstairs and the tank upstairs tomorrow to get the DKH in the sump to drop. Hopefully that won't take too long. The sump is at 10DKH and I run the tank at 7DKH. I don't want to create a big mess by raising it too high too quick.

I also have a 8' frag tank in the works which will go above the sump so there shall be plenty of Frags to go around in time.

A couple of ml of muriatic acid will bring the dkh down to where you want it. It'll need a few of hours of vigorous aeration to blow off the CO2. I use 12-14ml to bring the dkh of a 50 gallon bag of IO down to where I need it to be (7.5).

Thank you! That's exactly what Pife told me to do yesterday. I need to go to HD to buy some.

Another thing I've noticed, when I use the muriatic acid, I have none of the usual buildup on the sides of the mixing tank I used to get with IO before I started dropping the dkh. No clue why, but I'm not complaining.

She's connected and flowing! Full siphon on the far end and the one closer to the camera is the emergency overflow.

The tank is so quite now. I'm very happy I decided to do this basement sump thing.

Still lots to do:
1. I have to take my apex stuff downstairs.
2. Wire an outlet into the room.
3. Build a wall, put in a door, finish the space with drywall or plywood and paint.
4. Build an ATO container
5. Move my RODI stuff
6. Build a stand for the frag tank and plumb it in
....
