Black Egg Crate

Is there somewhere local to Rochester that carries black egg crate? I know Lowes and HD carry it in white. Would I be able to paint the white black? Im using it to cover a 24 gallon aquapod, so it wont be submerged in water. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Dan.

im sure it can be easily painted if its not going into the water, with what type of paint im not quite sure. (never done it myself) help me out guys :-P

not that thousands haven't used white... black egg crate is pvc . it should leach less and not fuel algae as much.

Used both black and white for frag racks. Both trapped particulates and grew algae. Now I use drilled plexiglass. Much less work after teh initial boring hours drilling it
. Non submerged I think a coat of fusion paint would do but I'd personally keep any paint away from the water or salt creep out of an abundance of caution on my part.

I use drilled plexi for frag racks too. I couldn't stand the algae growing on the egg crate.

BTW as a tank cover it might be ok but better if you zip tie some fiberglass screening to the bottom side, imo. Once when I was at Pacific East Aquariums facility in Maryland, I walked by a tank and a Scot's wrasse jumped. It's head went through the opening in the eggcrate and it was hanging there by it's gills.
