Black Friday Deals

Hey Nick I noticed you have a reef octopus nwb 150 listed as your skimmer. HOw do you like it? I was thinking of buying that one but realized the footprint is to big to fit my set up so I was thinking I'd get the 110.

Zero complaints here with my NWB-150. It's relatively quiet, pulls out lots of nasty stuff, is reasonably priced, and - best of all - has already been vetted by hundreds of people on this forum alone. It BARELY fits in my stupid Eshopps RS-100 sump, but that's not the skimmer's fault. :)

Regarding the Ecotech sale, I called BRS asking about it, and they wouldn't outright say it, but hinted that the 20% off is going to happen. I was going to do that, but found a used one for a damn good price two days ago and pulled the trigger on it.

Last year BRS had a 12% off sale for Black Friday and a point multiplication on Boxing Day I think.

I contacted them and they told me to keep an eye on my emails for their news bulletin...

Thanks for all the great info guys! If anyone else has information to add about any holiday sales keep them coming!!

Premium Aquatics had 14% off for Black Friday, as well. I'm sure whoever received the code from their mailing list will share it in here (I will if somebody doesn't beat me to it).

Did every brand participate on the rebates? Im looking for several AI Hydras and Tunze pumps

There are a number of manufacturers that usually prevent coupon codes from being used on their products. Neptune Systems (Apex) and EcoTech are two of them. It never hurts to try, though. I was able to get my brand new Apex Jr. last year for a very nice discount that I'm sure was an error, because the next day the coupon code said it was invalid.

I'm looking for some tunze 6095's myself. I see one sponsor has 11% off but that expires tomorrow. Should I hold off hoping for a bigger sale or go for it now? Decisions decisions!!!

I'm waiting for the Vortechs, personally. I'm interested in trying an for wavemaking in my tank. The Tunzes seem to do a better job of creating turbulent flow than they do consistent back-and-forth wave motion. They just a little too loud when they're set to go from 0 to anything over ~45% for the 6105s, and ~75% for the 6095s.

All of the deals last year were at least 12% (BRS), and some were higher (14% at Premium Aquatics). You never know what'll happen, though...

I just bought a used MP40W ES for my 90, and opposite a Koralia 1050, this thing makes serious waves in Nutrient Transport Mode.

The vortech rebate isn't a great deal but everything helps when you have to buy a couple.

The Vortech rebate is an outstanding deal considering they've never let us mark their pumps down or sell them below MAP pricing. Used MP40wes pumps go for $350 - $375 here on RC without a warranty. You'd be getting a brand new, with warranty pump for $371.99 after your rebate. That's pretty significant.

was that 12% from brs on your entire order? or just on select items?

Outside of the usual exemptions (Neptune, EcoTech, etc.), yep, it accounted for everything else. I bought 90% of my setup last Thanksgiving at BRS and Premium Aquatics and saved a ****ton of cash in doing so. BRS even had a few "doorbusters" that worked out for me, like the 5-stage Plus RO/DI.

If I recall correctly, most of the popular sites had sales that were site-wide with very few exceptions.

EDIT: These are 2012's codes, to give you an idea what the deals were like!
