my yellow tang has black spots all around him, not really visible unless you get close...

I looked it up and all i found was black ich...

and he doesn't have a film on him like normal ich...

Yep it would be black ich.

You need to give him a bath in formalin.
Just follow the instructions and he will be good in no time.
Easy to cure.

Make sure that you treat (dip) more than once. A treatment at the time that they lay their eggs will prevent a reoccurance of the black ich.

Just wish that the black ich eggs has not dropped in your sand or liverocks yet. Because no matter how much formallin dips you do, it will come back again and again. Although this parasite is not as lethal as the white ones. It only affects tangs(mostly yellow). I've had it before and I ended up removing my sand and replacing it. No more black ich after that.

will cleaner shrimp help?

No they will not.

The best drug for black ick is praziquantel... See if your LFS has prazi pro.

Revive by FishVet (black ich)

In a prior post i determined my yellow tang has black ich, and also learned how to treat it with fresh water dips and Formalin Baths. Reading more about this particular ich, I've learned that after a couple days the parasites lay their eggs in the sand and it's close to impossible to completely eliminate them.

then I found the product Revive by FishVet, I guess my question is if anybody has used this product, and if they had any success...

Hey there.

If you move him into a quarintine tank along with any other fish you have the parisite will die as it needs a fish host to live.
Leave the tank fishless for 4 weeks i do belive. Mind you that is for regular ick. Check the net for life cycle. I left mine in there for 4 weeks and never a problem since. But it may be a shorter period of time. But the tank has got to remain empty for that to work.

Do you have corals? I would be very careful treating your tank with anything if you have corals. Easier to just empty the tank of fish than take a chance you kill the corals or live rock.
Just my opinion though...:)

i have no coral but i do have 3 anemones, and i looked it up and they can live without a host for a couple months...

it doesn't appear that my clowns are infected... maybe the anemones do not allow the parasites to stay on the sebea clowns, maybe?

I kinda don't think so but maybe? My only concern would be that when you move the other fish out to quarintine that when the parasite reemerges from the sand then the only fish there are the clowns. Then the cycle keeps going.
Could be wrong but thats just my thought.:)
