Black nudi - bad guy?

When I got home from work today I found I've got a black nudi on my glass. I've never seen him before - about 3/4" long, two long antennae at one end with white dots on the end, and a patch of short frilly "hair" at the other end. He's SOLID jet black - no coloration on him whatsoever except for the bright white ends of the 2 anteannae/tentacles.

I'd post some pics but I'm acclimating some new "kids" right now - didn't think to snap a pic before I turned the lights off, and I'll be keeping them off the rest of the night.

Ideas? Think he's a bad guy?

when you say jet black the firs tthing that comes to mind is a scutus,in which case its a good guy

Most of the "black nudi" requests end up being Scutus species. But, they don't have white tips to the rhinophores and a gill on the back. It's probably either Dendrodoris fumata or Dendrodoris nigra.

hmm... didn't look like either of those - unless those can be SOLID black. No mottling, no nothing. I thought it was a limpet at first - it's that solid of a black.

Yeah, they can be, and usually are, solid black. "Nigra" means black, of course, and "fumata" means smoky, and those are dark grey or black, usually. That page I referred you to has a lot of unusual variations on it. They typical one is kinda long and skinny, not inflated-looking like the ones in most of the pics, has the gill well toward the back, is black, and has white tips on the rhinophores.

Thanks Don. Should I pull him out next time I see him if it's a Dendrodoris nigra? Does it eat anything fun? (zoas, SPS, LPS, etc)

It'll be a sponge eater, and will be eating its sponge off the bottoms of your rocks, most likely. It will probably starve after it eats up all the suitable sponge, but it shouldn't be a problem in your tank. Even if it's another dorid, same thing applies, it will just be a cryptic sponge eater.
