Black Ocellaris

I am considering giving my cinnamon clownfish back to my lfs and buying a single black Ocellaris from saltwaterfish.com It is a big investment so i wanted to get any help before i made the purchase. What experience do you all have with the black oceallaris. I have a six headed frogspawn that i would like it to host.

it might and it might not. not sure what it would normally host in except a anemone.

I have a mated pair of black ocellaris and I love them, My female is allways the first fish to great a new addition to the tank. They get along with all my fish and I love watching them swim and dance together. I have not added anything for them to host in yet and I have had them for about 9 months.

my female black is with RBTA and the smaller one which I assume a male is with a frogspawn

They are not picky at all, they will eat frozen mysis, brine, marine cuisine, formula one and two flake and pellets. So far I haven't found anything the little pigs won't eat

I currently have a cinnamon clown and he wont even touch mysis shrimp i really dnt understand. The only thing he eats is ORAGlow pellet food

Did you get that black ocellaris from saltwaterfish.com? They have a pair of black and white ocellaris on liveaquaria.com in the diversden area right now.

I ordered 3 B/W's from saltwaterfish.com and 2 of the 3 died. They weren't really doing that great from the get go.. the third was thriving from day 1. I sent them back and got a credit.. but I have to spend an additional $80 to even be able to use the $90 credit. That sucks in my opinion but oh well. Waiting to upgrade my lights to be able to order some corals and stuff from them. The one that survived eats anything and everything that's small enough to fit in his mouth.. most pellets I have to crush up a little since he's only about 1" / 1.25" long.

i have a orange ocellaris and black ocellaris together in my tank. they love each other and the contrast between the two looks amazing. they host my toadstool but not my bta...lol o well. they both eat anything

Good luck with your Black. I love my big girl. She's "buddies" with a true perc.
She likes to host in some xenia or a small group of green striped shrooms.
When feeding her flake, I'll hold my pinched fingers at the waters surface and she'll nibble at my thumb and finger until I finally let go of the food. When she first started did that I wasn't paying attention. It startled the crap outta me.

I have a true ocellaris and a b&w, the bw is a fiesty little S.O.B. When I stick my hands in the tank to adjust or move something, he attacks my fingers. Kind of funny really, although he got me pretty good the other day and startled me. They both eat anything I throw in there. I purchased mine for a LFS to avoid the 30 to 40 $ shipping. Also, be aware of purchasing delicate corals. I had to return a flower pot because the true was constantly trying to host in it.

I have an orange (female) and a b/w (male) and they get along fine. But the orange gets nasty with new tank mates unless they are bigger than her. In fact, I have a sailfin tang in a quarantine tank until it gets bigger and then I can introduce it into my big tank.

I have frogspawns and hammers in my tank and they have no interest in hosting in them. They prefer my Mag Float!

In fact, they are tending to their second clutch of eggs right now and hoping they will hatch tonight! Here's a picture of the happy couple!
