I have a pair of what i thought were black saddleback clownfish and was hoping to get another but am having difficulty finding clowns similar to mine.

Mine look like this:

They've got the black coloration, but retain the patterns of the typical black a. polymnus. ORA shows this as a typical saddleback:

but differentiates black saddleback's as having a ful middle stripe, like this:

I really dont like the full middle stripe, but everywhere i've found black saddlebacks on sale they've had this.

So what exactly should i be looking for if i want fish that look like mine currently? They aren't just misbar black saddlebacks are they? Or do all saddlebacks turn that color, and "black" ones just have a more full middle stripe?

Why would you want another pair of clownfish that are the same as the pair you already have?

One jumped unfortunately when I added a tang a few months back...if rather just find ajuv and acclimate it but might just put the female I have into anem tank I have

There are lots of different geographic variations of A.polymnus. Some have the full stripe and some don't. Just have to keep looking.

You're probably going to have a hard time finding another clown exactly like yours. It is possible, it's just not going to be easy. I know they were coming out of the Philippines, and I'm not even sure they're still exporting them???????? Maybe try posting a thread in the "want to buy" forum. You may get lucky and find someone breeding them. I'd make sure to see a pic before sending money though.

I didn't know anyone was captive breeding black polymnus, but yours certainly look captive bred. That would explain the different than normal markings as well. If you originally got them from ORA (or a distributor of ORA fish) you can probably ask ORA for mismarked fish again. It is not unusual for them to produce mismarked fish.

Now im not 100% this is identicle to yours, as it doesnt have the white marking on its face, but this is a captive bred one i picked up locally here from my LFS who got it from a local breeder that i cant remember the name of right now..
but this ones definalty all black, with the faint yellow fins.. and sadly i just sold her :(

but if this is the same one your looking for, i can try and hunt down some information and the breeders email for ya..

I'm not sure if i got them from an ORA dealer, but these fish weren't marked as ORA black saddlebacks if my memory serves me
