Black Sailfin Blenny (Emblemaria Pandionis)

I had one in my nano tank for a few years. My suggestion is that a nano is perfect for these, would probably not do as well in a tank with a lot of fish etc. as it is a small fish and could get easily spooked. They like to have a little hole to live in and will just dart out to eat, the rest of the time they mostly will stay in there resting place. I used and old cocco worm tube, and it would just hang in there most of the time.

They are pretty attentive and mine would come out of the tube when I came by the tank begging for food. I had mine in the tank with a watchmen goby and pistol shrimp pair, they got along fine as the goby / shrimp pair were always under the rocks in their tunnels, and the Sailfin was in his tube. Might have more problems with another goby like a tailspot which would basically assume the same niche in the tank.

I have one in my 50 gal. I got him because i was told they eat bryopsis. So far I havent seen him eat any, but he has kept all other algae in check. He does hide a lot, and I havent seen him eat any prepared food, but he is fat...

So he should do fine with a shrimp goby or a 'swimming blenny' such as the Midas? If not I'd much rather have the sailfin than the other two.

I was curious about these guys because they're not common, but they are very pretty. I see them all the time when I go diving and I was tempted to catch a few, but it might be better to get one through a store. At least diving though I'd be able to catch a pair, that'd be pretty cool.
