Black Sea Nettle Jellyfish

Hi everyone,

Check out these really cool Black Sea Nettle Jellyfish. This dive took place in San Diego California. Has anyone ever went scuba diving with these?

I dive fairly often in La Jolla (San Diego) and occasionally off shore. I haven't seen one yet.

sometimes there are tons of nettles in monterey, although they don't have the same colors as those. same size, though. i have lots-o-pics somewhere... pretty cool

How's the water there? Diving a kelp forest is on my bucket list.

For San Diego, it depends where you dive. For shore diving, visibility is usually a couple of feet to 20+. The viz does improve with boat diving off the coast. Further off shore in the Channel Islands/Coronado Islands the visibility can be tropical like. If I were to pick one spot in SoCal, it would be the off shore islands. Kelp forests are definitely cool. As I'm sure you know, it's definitely cold water diving! I have a 7 mm wetsuit and towards the end of a dive I do get a little chilled.

Kelp Diving can be truly amazing, although this weekend in Monterey with 5ft vis, it wasn't.
