Black Seahorse losing color over time....normal?

I have a rather large black sea horse that was like jet black when I got it. I have had it like 3 months now and I would say its in perfect health but is slowly losing the black color to a tanish-olive color. It actually looks tan and someone sprayed it with black spray paint from a distance but it is mostly tan with minimal black now.

Your seahorse isn't losing color, it is changing color. Seahorses change color for a variety of reasons - stress, to blend in with hitching posts, mating, and sometimes just because they feel like it. Thats why buying seahorses based on color isn't a good idea. Typically it is nothing to worry about.

i had a jet black kuda that when it's mate died turned very white, he's been white for about 4 months now and hasn't changed back

would adding another female of the same species make him change his colour back to black?

It usually depends on what color it's hitching posts are. Mine have gradually went from yellow or black to tan. They've been fine. :)
