Black spots on butterfly "Questions"

New butterfly on 4/25/10
he started showing red spots that I thought was acclimation stress or bacterial infection so I watched him for a few days and the red has gone away and now where the red spots were they are now black dots not a lot maybe 6-7 and counting.

He is still in the 30 gallon. On may 2nd started Prazipro and he's still fine eating and acting normal "Spots still on him".

Questions:
Can I use ammo lock with prazi ? He's eating 3x day Im worried about a spike.

How long before the med starts working on the black spots?

Will they fall off and if so will the wound still look like black dots?

Ive always done (2) 7 day treatments of prazi but heard its best to keep it at (2) 5 days treatments because it looses potency after 5 days
what are your thoughts?

Also how large of a water change should I do before next dose (He's in a 30 gallon) I was going to do 15 gallons is this right?

I believe the black spots are the wound result to the flatworm, its not the actual parasite. So it will not drop off the fish but should heal. Prazi should kill the flatworms causing this and the 5 day treatments are plenty.

Thanks,Any Idea on the ammo lock? This my my biggest concern seeing as my skimmer and chemical filtration is off,The butterfly is eating amazing even through treatment and Id like to keep him eating but am worried of the build up of ammonia right now ammonia is at 0 but just incase Id like to know I can use a binder of some kind.

Sorry Gary,Yes it is a long nosed butterfly :)
He just finished first week of prazi, did a water change and getting ready to start another round of prazi in a few days. He's doing great! All red blotches are gone and I see a few Black spots left but I'm not sure if these are from the wounds left from the worms?
Anyhow here is a picture of him in the refugium awaiting the display :)

Shawna,
Try the Rods again , but this time take a small piece of live rock and push it into a crevice in the rock. Place the rock where the fish can see it and he will probably pick at it.
It is more of a natural behavior for the fish to pick at the rock for something. It might not work but its worth a shot to increase the spectrum of food they will accept. just my 2 cents

Ok sad update! Butterfly went off his food yesterday and this afternoon Ich finally reared it's ugly head :(
So I had no Qt available seeing as my son threw his toy through it last week Uggghhh
I ran out and grabbed a 10 gallon tank from walmart heater/ect..... I used all new saltwater
and acclimated him to new water. I threw in some sponges that have been in my sump for months in the HOB filter and threw more in the sump.
Started him on 1/2 ml today and going to do half tomorrow and same in 48 hours. Figured Id cut the dose even more than directed seeing as he is a more sensitive fish.

Here's my question though Its been a while sinse I dosed cupramine. Do I add more copper for top offs or just to the water change water ? Im thinking the water change water only correct? I will be testing 2x a day the first few days.

Also seachem suggests keeping skimmer going? I have never used a skimmer while dosing I would think it would remove the copper?

Anyhow Im worried because he went off the food and have never treated a fish not eating in copper but I didnt finish the 2nd round of prazi and the black spot disease was still there and figured with Ich now present I dont have much time :(
Im hoping he pulls through.

Well same night in hospital tank he did well ,Ate some more mysis :) Happy he's eating.
I have one more ML to dose before he's at .5 he seems to be tolerating .25 cupramine right now.
Did not put skimmer on. I question this one.
Went to my LFS and got a Seachem ammonia badge, although it reads safe (Ill still be doing daily small water changes)"Not sure if I trust it" and another sponge from one of the more established tanks at the shop (thanks guys!)
and I put a small bowl full of sand from my refugium in the hospital tank as well.

Do you think this will be enough to combat spikes? I hope it will! (it does not appear to be effecting my reading with cupramine (its about a cup full of sand).

If anyone has some more suggestions plz let me know :)
Thanks for reading :)

Good news! I hope he continues to do well for you. You are a good fish momma!

Me to! and Thanks,I hope Im doing the right thing. I guess I always question putting a fish through this, But I feel its the responisble thing to do.
I just hope he makes it out He's so friendly, and has tons of personality :)

Ok not really an update more so questions ...although butterfly is still doing great.

My question is: If I used say a water pitcher on hospital tank, then used the same pitcher
after rinse and drying it on my display" Did my husband.ughhh.....Yes husband lol cross contaminate the display"? Can Ich live after being rinsed and towel dried?
Do not know why he used that pitcher to fill the display "I purposly had a band aid on it so we would know it was strictly for the hospital tank :( Anyhow I am just going crazy now thinking we have just transfered Ich to the display!

I have all my nets and ect from hospital tank sitting in meth blue soak after being used and trying my best as to not transfer it back to the hospital
Does everything need to be bleached? or is what Im doing enough to keep Ich from getting back into the hospital? Although its already in that hospital tank and on my fish I do not want to re intro more eggs ect...

Any help on this and suggestions on sterilizing or if its needed would be greatly appreciated :)
Thanks

Your worrying too much... :spin2: Rinse out the container in hot FW and you won't have any issues. Glad to hear the LNB is doing better! :)
