Black spots on clown

I have had my BioCube 29 established for about 6 weeks now; added 2 clowns about 3 weeks ago. They seem to be very healthy, active and eating well. I noticed a day ago that one of them has 3 small (1/32~1/16") round black spots on it's body, one by the tail and 2 behind the pectoral fin, all on the right side. The one by the tail developed frst, then the other 2. They were not there when I purchased the fish. The spots are clean looking, no flakeing, swelling or bumps. Any ideas? Thanks

good question. i have two nemos for over 4 months now and have had black spots. have gone away as they gotten bigger though.

They are usually caused from the clown brushing up--or trying to host--something that isn't compatible with their skin. It generally happens when clowns try to host zoanthids or some other type of coral. Nothing to worry about. My new ocellaris pair currently have then due to them hosting my flower pot coral.

i have been searching for an answer to the black spots all around my false perc, mainly on the underside of the fish

currently, my flase perc hosts a bed of zoas so i dont think its harming the false perc but im sure the fish would be happier if i get a bta or carpet.

Like magellan said, the black spots are caused by the clown trying to use a non-natural host. Ocellaris seem more prone to this than other clowns. Sometimes they don't go away until the clown stops using the non-natural host.

The black on the above clown is definitely from using the zoas as a host.

"Brook" doesn't cause black spots. It causes rapid breathing and a white sloughing off of the slime layer.
