So iva had thse tank raised false percs for 3 years been hosting in rbta and lbta for 2 years. Just recently i noticed these blk spots appearing more and more on my clowns. I read its nothing to worry about because they are being stung and will go away. But they have been hosting for 2 years in the same anemones going back and forth. i have 4 in my tank. So why show up now?

Wow! I am on looking for the same exact question. Come home today to see that my son's false percs have some black spots on them as well. They are around 3 years old too. I read on another site that if they host in a coral that this sometimes happens. Tagging along for sure.....

i have the same problem with my false percs but the only difference is that i don’t have any anemones. i saw it happening when i stopped frozen food and started dry food.

Yes it's because some anemones or corals are too strong for some clowns... That being said it's wont hurt them as long as they go away within a month or two, but if it persists longer it may leave the clown suseptiable to infections. But it takes alot to get to that point. As long as their not white looking spots your ok. If it's white spots it could be ick, but thats just one possiablity if their white.

I would just keep an eye out an make sure the black doesn't turn into red...

Re-evaluate what is in your aquarium and if the condition doesn't improve in a few weeks, remove the culprit or remove the fish from this exposure.

Just so you know they call it Hyper Melaninization cause by contact of a coral or anemone that has stung the fish and causes pigment discoloration...

Good luck!
