What corals do you have in your tank? Is there something like a torch coral that they are trying to host in that they would be getting stung from? That's what's happening to my clowns as they try to host a torch coral...I believe they will eventually build up mucus to it...just not yet.
Do you have an anemone or like stated above, corals? Its normal if you dont see the black spots on the STRIPES. If it does exceed onto the stripes also, it could have brooklynella, but I'm assuming they're just bruises from being stung by a coral or anemone.
this happened to my clown fish, i was really worried about it for a while. the time my clown started getting black spots is when i was messing around alot in the tank with the live rock and corals. It is a sign that it is stressed. I wouldnt worry about it. they go away
Brooklynella is more noticealble with the slime coating. If your fish have what looks like the color fading and a thick mucas on their body that is brooklynella. I have also had clowns that hosted a hammer and developed some small black spots, then again it could just be genetic. Look for them scraping on things to scratch, if they are doing that then it could be a parasite.
