Hi there,

From the links in the last post you will find Marc Weiss products get generally bad reviews.

I did, however, try the black powder (because my LFS owner is a friend and I didn't have to pay for it - ridiculously expensive)

Anyway, my mushrooms did respond to it and after adding it to the water (at a quarter of the recommended dose) I saw bristleworms and small brittlestars coming out of the rockwork. All this means though is that something in it smells good to these critters.

I carried on dosing a quarter of the recommended daily dose, but only every 3 days. Then I got algae problems and stopped using it.

Summary - possibly consists of something nutritious, but not worth the risk since it appears nutritious to nuisance algae too.

Cheers

James

I had the same results as Jamesf did with Combo Vital. Basically like adding dirt to your tank. It would be great if I had black sand. The colors did pop more, but probably won't use it anymore on my main tank.

About the same here, got a bottle to try. Cannot say for certain if I see any benefits. Might be beneficial for plankton and pods. My best take it would be good to use one bottle to break in a new tank and that's about it.

ive used combo vital for quite some time.

so ill note that copepods and maybe smaller amphipods like the spectra vital part and that my mini stars, vermatid snails, adult amphipods and munnid shrimp love the black powder. and as for corals utilizing it ive only seen seen mushrooms feeding on black powder im not saying other corals dont use it i just havent observated it.

i also use the reef bugs which has various "yeast" in it which also works great for pods and clams if its truely yeast based.

i just got my hands on some of their amino vital to give it a try and see what it does.

their liquid products suck though they add huge amounts of nutrients to tanks, IME, leading to algea blooms.

You would be better off using cyclops eez (sp?)
