Blasto Welsii problem

Have you guys ever noticed that sometimes these corals soon after import will start to receed at certain points and it takes them months to completely die off?

What can you do about this when this starts to occur?
Frag the infected tissue off?

Dips?

Any suggestions?

Yes, I just dumped a 3 head frag. My suggestion is to do lots of feeding. I didn't have the time to coax this one back, but when I did happen to feed it it looked better. IME, feeding is crucial for wellsis. They are much more prolific grower and polyps look fuller and healthier when you feed them. Shawnts, I would just feed and avoid the dip.

Agree with serioussnaps, Blasto Wellsi do alot better with feeding. I give mine the small mysis shrimp, feed ea mouth at least 3 times a week.

Agree. i got a wellsi a few months ago and it was almost a goner - really receeding and kinda melting away. i feed it 2 times a week and it's really coming back. stopped receeding. good polyp extension and really color up

IME as well. Innitially a couple years ago I lost a beautifull colony and almost my last frag of wellsi. It got soo small it couldntve eaten a brine shrimp if it wanted to. But coincidentally started feeding my tank rotifers. It soon grew to a size where I could start manually feeding it, so I did. The rest is history, 10 babies later and a mouth that was smaller than half a pea is now easily 3 inches in diameter! As always though, when you vamp up the feeding you need to vamp up the filtration & husbandry. Good luck!
