blastomussa question

I'm sure someone out there knows something about blastomussas. if so any info would be greatly appreciated.

we have had this blasto for about a year looks great nice and full polyps. a year and it doesn't seem to have grown much at all. tank set up is 55 gal DT 20 gal sump with cheato, 2 250w halides, 4 65w CF atinics, current 1/10hp chiller. water quality is excellent 15 gal water change every week with RO/DI dose strontium, calcium, and iodide.

so my question is how can i get my blasto to grow better?

I've tried placing lower in the tank but didn't seem to make a difference + hated having to get sand off it from the sleeper gobys. only thing that we determined is that it needs shade so we give it some.

thx for looking.

Maybe it would grow better if it werent in the shade? :) Mine seem to like being out in the open at the bottom. I use mid to low strength LEDs

LPS are not the fastest growers for me either.. I have a bunch of acans, blasto, although my duncans seem to do well and make babies, still dont have a lot of branch growth. etc.. just slow growing. Takes a while to build that calciferous base!

Are you feeding it? Give it some meat (pellets mysis) a coupe times a week.

Is it a merletti or wellsi? I keep both and definately get slower growth from my merletti. Here's a one month growth progression. The center two polyps are most noticable. They are kept in a 75 gallon with 108W of T5, low flow and fed pellets and frozen brine. Merletti does best for me when I have it shaded under the large FS colony.

Blastos are my favorite coral, I have about 10 different ones. Some of mine grow quickly ( a polyp or 2 a month) and some not at all. I used to feed spot feed mine but I found my fish picking at them because it was easy food so I stopped. I do try to feed my fish their pellets over the colonies though so they get some food. And that seems to work.
