Bleach

Hello Everyone,

Finally we caught a decent day here in New Jersey yesterday and I decided it was time to set up the 10 gallon soon to be dwarf seahorse tank. There are two faux coral decorations that I had from our 120 saltwater that i wanted to re-use so I sterilized them with bleach, only to later find out that the bleach was lemon scented which i know is not recommended. The corals soaked in a 5 gallon bucket of water with about two capfulls of the bleach for about an hour and then rinsed vigorously. After being rinsed I let them soak in pure freshwater overnight, and then earlier today rinsed them off with warm water and stuck them in the tank, and added some water conditioner to remove any leftover traces.

The tank still has a three month cycle period ahead of it before anything live goes into the aquarium - but I'm worried about the scented bleach incident. Do you think my procedure was sufficient?

We filter via charcoal to remove poisons from the water. I´d recommend that.

If it was me, I would not use the decorations soaked in anything scented, though.

Then again, I don´t use FW decorations / anything artificial (well, except technical equipment designed for marine purposes) at all. I´m too afraid the saltwater might dissolve the material and make it leach unwanted substances into the water.

I guess i can add some carbon to the filter ... Thanks.

Any other opinions?

Oh also, Would the use of carbon have any negative effects on the cycle time?
